Work on changing speed. (video option)
To learn and demonstrate the value of change speed and change of direction moves try the following:
One player is on a line (sideline, baseline, lane line etc.) facing downcourt or to a sideline. Another player is facing her shoulder about 4 feet away. The player starts to move down the line at a slow pace. The coach calls out, FAST! And the player moves fast, with the other player trying to mirror her actions. The coach calls out SLOW! And the player slows down. The coach calls out STOP! And the player stops. The other player continues to try and mirror the runner. After the first trip down the line, the coach calls out random orders – FAST, STOP, SLOW, STOP, FAST. FAST. SLOW……..
Repeat the drill. Now the line player has a ball in her right hand. She randomly moves from fast to slow to fast to stop to slow to fast…. While the other player tries to mirror the action.
