Practice a sequence of rips and steps.
Set up a dribble sticks or sweep sticks along a line. Players stand in triple threat position with a ball on their hip. In the first round on the signal the players rip through low and wide. In the second round they rip, left to right, pound and step out – using an open step (right hand and right foot). In the third round the players rip, right to left, pound and step out – using an open step (left hand – left foot).
The fourth round has the players rip and step as above, using a cross step. Do this with both the left and right.
Fifth round – as above with three dribbles and a jump stop. Practice rips right and left, with both an open and cross step.
Sixth round – rip at the elbow and finish with a one-step layup. Grab the rebound and dribble across the baseline to a row of cones. Dribble up through the cones using random dribble moves at each cone. At the top of the line of cones, turn and return to the back on the rip line and start again.
