Description

Practicing getting close to the screener on the pick and roll.

Summary

This drill practices various dribble moves used to get square to the screener and attack the screen low and close. It also reinforces the use of the inside hand / arm bar. Position a screener (the pick) and a ball handler on the wing or top of the key. Have the ball handler speed dribble from the foul line extended to the mid court line, turn and dribble back down towards the screen. The ball handler dribbles below the screen then uses a dribble move (hip swivel, jab step, cross over, inside out, reverse dribble etc.) to attack the screen and rub her defender off on the screen. The screener holds a short piece of a noodle with a bandana stuffed into the hole at the end, hanging out about 12 inches. The noodle is held waist high on the side of the dribble attack. As the ball handler dribbles by the screener she uses the inside hand to grab the bandana and either squares up on the inside foot to shoot the jumper or finishes with a layup.
