Description

Learn to pass through passing windows.

Summary

To pass effectively without creating a turnover the passer must identify the passing window available. When a defender is positioned to defend us there are 5 possible windows:

1 & 2 – over each shoulder

3 & 4 - under each arm, below the hips

5 – over the top of the head

In the first progression of the drill two passers stand about 15 feet apart. A defender starts in the middle and steps to the passer with their hands up, at shoulder height, feet shoulder width apart. In this progression the passer does not try to deflect or intercept the pass. The passer passes through any of the 5 windows past the defender to the other passer. After passing the passer follows her pass and becomes the defender for passer #2. Passes go back and forth for several reps.

In the second progression the passer has to “close a window” before passing. This reinforces the habit of “faking a pass before making a pass”. The passer ball fakes into one of the windows causing the defender to move her arms to close the window. The passer then passes through an “open window” and follows the pass to the receiver as before.

The third progression is live action. The defender is now trying to deflect or intercept the pass.
