Description

Practice fundamental footwork for squaring up to the rim for a shot when not facing the rim.

Summary

When receiving a pass or dribbling down the sideline, across the key or in any situation when you are not facing the basket, the inside foot square up is a fundamental footwork skill. All players begin at the right baseline / lane intersection (the key). The players toss the ball out on the lane line with backspin, step to the ball with their inside foot (the foot closest to the basket), and square up to the basket taking a shot. Retrieve the ball and toss the ball out again, moving up the lane with each toss. When you reach the elbow toss the ball out on the foul line and move across the line with each toss. At the opposite elbow turn and toss the ball down the lane line moving down with each toss until you reach the baseline. Return, going in the opposite direction (you are now squaring up on the other inside foot). Focus on stepping long and low with the inside foot using proper form and technique.
