Practice lateral quickness to the ball and a catching method.
Summary

Practice this method to improve a player’s ability to cleanly catch and control the ball. A coach throws a pass high and wide, over the player’s shoulder. The player reaches for the pass with one hand, “blocks” the pass with that hand and “tucks” it by bringing the ball to the other hand. The initial contact is on the fingers rather than the palm of the hand. Practice using the left and right hand. As the player gains confidence in the execution of the method, begin to throw passes to various locations – wide to one side, high, low etc.
