Description

Practice transition defense while improving conditioning.

Summary

Set up two lines on the baseline at the lane line intersection (#1&2). Set up a guard in the key, under the basket (#3). The guard (#3) starts to dribble the length of the court and tries to score with four dribbles. On the 1st dribble the two baseline players (#1&2) begin to pursue and try to catch the guard. The guard tries to score. One defender (#1) grabs the ball out of bounds, plants her foot and throws a baseball pass. The other defender (#2) plants her left foot on the 3 point line, pivots on the inside foot and sprints in the other direction for a breakaway. After scoring the guard (#3) sprints back to defend the breakaway (#2).

VARIATIONS:

  • Add another guard and another defender.
  • Have the guards pass back and forth while being pursued. If caught they can use the dribble.
  • Run a 3 on 2 on the way back.
