Practice maintaining composure when under pressure and avoiding a 10 second call. (video option)
Place six or more payers in the backcourt area, between the baseline and the foul line. Each player dribbles a ball. Instruct the players to dribble in place. Tell them to determine when they must dribble quickly across the mid court line in order to avoid a 10 second violation. Discreetly set a stop watch at 10 seconds. Keep talking to the players while the clock ticks, making it difficult for them to count in their heads. Typically players will panic and rush to cross the midcourt line with more than enough time to spare (in game situations this rush often leads to hurried passes and turnovers). Allow the 10 seconds to pass and then bring the players back to the backcourt. Set the stop watch again and count off 10 seconds so the players can hear you. They will see that 10 seconds is a lot more time than they think. Reinforce the need to remain calm under pressure and execute as taught. To add intensity have each ball handler defended.
