Summary

The players maintain a diamond formation. One player takes the ball out of bounds. One player starts at each wing – top of the key extended. Two players are stacked at the mid-court circle. The wing players cut to the ball, trying to catch the inbounds pass in the middle 1/3 of the floor. If the in-bounds pass is denied the wing players either seal and release to the pass or screen for each other. Once the ball is in bounds the passer steps onto the floor at the bottom of the diamond formation. The wing who caught the inbounds pass faces up to assess the defense. On the inbounds pass the player at the back of the midcourt stack sprints to the top of the key. The player at the front of the stack moves to the far corner on the side of the ball. The best option is to move the ball up court with the pass. Ideally, reversing the ball with a pass back to the bottom of the diamond (inbounds passer), followed by a pass to the opposite wing. When possible a pass to the middle player who is flashing from the mid-court circle creates the best option for beating the press. If forced to attack the defense with the dribble the ball handler must try to dribble against one of the two trappers and get to the middle of the court. If the ball is passed to the middle player flashing to the key, the middle player catches the pass, pivots to face down court and passes to one of the wing players who are now sprinting down the sideline. As the ball moves down court all players maintain the diamond formation, focused on proper spacing. This allows for the ball to be reversed out of trapping situations.
