Description

Practice trapping and trap escapes.

Summary

Use cones to divide the court into 3 sections – both sidelines to a line about 16 feet in on each side, and the middle 16-foot section created by the cones on either side. An offensive player stands near the baseline in each section, with a ball. Two defenders stand, side by side, 5 feet away from each offensive player. In the signal the two defenders trap the offensive player. The offensive player uses a flex fake to get the defender’s hands up and then uses the dribble to attack ONE defender. Ideally it is the slower of the two defenders. The offensive players try to get to the middle of the court and avoid the sidelines. If trapped again and the offensive player must pick up her dribble, she pivots and brings the ball back away from the defenders. As the defenders move in on her she uses the step back / step through footwork, holding the ball tight to the body until she steps through, extends her arms and passes to a teammate.
